Watch the premiere of Tegan and Sara’s I Was A Fool

It seems like Tegan and Sara couldn’t possibly pull any more emotions out of fans when it comes to I Was A Fool, their third single off 2013′s Heartthrob, but with today’s premiere of the official video, I stand correct. Actually, I sit. Standing and typing is tricky.

After wowing fans with their Travis Hopkins-directed lyric videos for Closer and Now I’m All Messed Up, the first two releases from Heartthrob, Tegan and Sara teamed up with Hopkins again to release an exciting and dramatic lyric video for I Was A Fool.

Going in a completely different direction from the retro-inspired Closer and the beautifully inked Now I’m All Messed Up, I Was A Fool features the duo as the background to a young woman’s night spent wandering the city while full of heartbreak. With the lyrics snuck discreetly into the landscape, the visuals can at times easily be mistaken for the official music video.

Today’s release of the official music video for I Was A Fool shows the duo serenading a heartbroken Mae Whitman, who has most recently been seen in 2012′s The Perks of Being A Wallflower. The actress relives her tormented relationship through old records and post cards before finally breaking out of a relationship that drags her down.

From their album Heartthrob, check out the premiere of Tegan and Sara’s official video for I Was A Fool.

Tegan and Sara continue to push boundaries with lyric video for I Was A Fool

Apparently Tegan and Sara never got the memo that lyric videos are supposed to kinda lame. The duo have again surpassed expectations for the precursor to a full video with their treatment for I Was A Fool, the stirring lovesick track from their 2013 disc Heartthrob.

After wowing fans with their Travis Hopkins-directed lyric videos for Closer and Now I’m All Messed Up, the first two releases from Heartthrob, the sisters have again teamed up with Hopkins to release an exciting and dramatic lyric video for I Was A Fool.

Tegan and Sara posted the video today on their official Tumblr page and have promised more material in the coming weeks, saying “Next week we’ll post the official video, which features our good friend and amazing actress Mae Whitman! More details about that soon!”

Tegan and Sara release lyric video for Now I’m All Messed Up

Tegan and Sara teamed up once again with animator Travis Hopkins to create the lyric video for their second single Now I’m All Messed Up off the duo’s 2013 disc Heartthrob. The new video perfectly captures the despair and longing in the emotional track, using ink and water over top of scroll font for the lyrics. The sisters previously worked with Hopkins to create their retro lyric video for Closer.

Sara Quinn posted the following message, along with the new video, on the band’s Tumblr page. Check out why the group chose Now I’m All Messed up as their new single and watch the beautiful lyric video below!

As soon as we started playing the songs from Heartthrob live at shows, “Now I’m All Messed Up” emerged as a major fan favourite. It’s nearly impossible to not get caught up in the feelings of the song when performing it, so it’s very fun to see the entire crowd be drawn in as we lay it all out there on the stage! Things get emotional!

We wanted to bring that same level of emotion to the lyric video for the song, and we really think we achieved that with the unique ink and water treatment that brings to mind writing a good old fashioned heartbreaking letter and sobbing all over it! We were excited to be working with Travis Hopkins again who created the lyric video for Closer, he did such a great job, we love it and hope you do too!

Get That Much Closer to Tegan and Sara

To celebrate the release of their album Heartthrob, MUCH is bringing Tegan and Sara fans That Much Closer to their favourite band. Shot during the duo’s recent concert in Toronto, our cameras got exclusive access to the pop singers and found out what the new record means to them.

Check out our cameras bringing you That Much Closer to Tegan and Sara below as well as five amazing facts from from director Jeff Burns about the shoot that almost didn’t happen. Click here to check out a gallery from the shoot as well.

1. The performance footage that is jumping from side to side is a technique called stereoscopic. It is similar to 3D footage. It was shot with two cameras slightly offset from each other.

2. The balloons were custom made for this shoot. They all have the much logo on them. We ordered 250 of them. They also have a small led in them.

3. Originally we were supposed to shoot Tegan and Sara at the ACC. They were on tour opening for the Killers. However The Killers cancelled because the lead singer came down with laryngitis. Kudos to Tegan and Sara’s team for the quick turn around. They found out Thursday night that the show would be cancelled. By noon the next day they had found a new venue (the Phoenix) for their own show and had completely sold it out. We shot on the Saturday.

4. We were given total access. I have been to hundred’s of concerts, but I have never seen a show from the side of the stage. It was really cool.

5. I have worked with many famous people. Athletes, musicians etc. These are two of the nicest people you could meet or work with. There was no attitude. All in all it was a lot of fun to work with them.

Hearts will throb for Tegan and Sara’s album in First Spins

We’re sure that Canada’s coolest twins, Tegan and Sara, got your head bumping with their video for Closer and now they’re ready to rock your socks off with their album Heartthrob! The new album is a departure from their humble indie beginnings and we’re really excited to hear what they have asserted as anything but boring, telling Rolling Stone, “We did have to make a conscious effort to make our record sonically more smooth and pleasing,” Tegan explained. “We have a huge back catalog of guitar-driven music, and the idea of just making another guitar-driven record seemed boring.”

The twins paired up with Ke$ha collaborator and Rita Ora producer Greg Kurstin and decidedly made Heartthrob into what it is, which is an album made of anthemic pop power ballads, filled with complex and fun songs to dance and shout and spin your body to. And lucky for everyone, we have their album Heartthrob ready and available for you in our First Spins section here! Despite the twins having gone in a different and evolutionary direction with their sound the core of what makes their music so impactful, we shouldn’t worry as their mastery of writing deep lyrics, still remains. Lyrics like, “I’m not the hero/ but that doesn’t mean I’m brave” still will slay no matter the genre of music.
