Here’s an article I never thought I would write. Actress Reese Witherspoon and her husband Jim Toth were arrested on Friday in Atlanta after officers witnessed their car swerving into the wrong lane. Toth failed a field sobriety test and was booked on a DUI, while Witherspoon was arrested for disorderly conduct after refusing to stay in the couple’s car during her husbands questioning.
While administering the field sobriety test to Toth, Trooper First Class J. Pyland said “Mrs. Witherspoon began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe that I was a real police officer. I told Mrs. Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be quiet.” Witherspoon got out of the car twice after being instructed to stay in the vehicle and was arrested.
Witherspoon has now released an official statement, saying “I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behaviour.”
The couple spent a short time in jail before being released on Friday. Witherspoon appeared in New York on the red carpet of her new film Mud on Sunday night, but refused to speak with reporters.
Reese Witherspoon has given her son a “redneck” name. The 36-year-old actress joked that calling her three-month-old child Tennessee, after the US state in which she grew up, is typical of the working class South and made it impossible for her friends to guess whether the baby was a boy or a girl.
While interviewing Reese, her close friend Chelsea Handler joked to the Chelsea Lately chat show audience “She wouldn’t tell me if she was having a boy or girl. Then you said, ‘I’m pretty sure someone’s reading our texts’, and I said, ‘Please don’t text me again because I don’t want to be blamed.’ Then you had the baby and you named it Tennessee and I still couldn’t figure out if it was a boy or a girl.” Reese laughed “Or just a redneck!”
Tennessee, who was born on September 27, is Reese’s first child with her CAA agent husband Jim Toth, and she is thrilled with the tiny tot, gushing that he always looks “super cute”. The actress hasn’t been doing all the hard work herself, however, and revealed that her eight-year-old son Deacon and 13-year-old daughter Ava from her first marriage to Ryan Phillippe love looking after their baby brother.
Ava in particular has been a big help, and Reese boasted “She’s 13 and so awesome.”
According to Us Weekly Magazine, blonde beauty Reese Witherspoon is in talks with Canadian singer Michael Buble about collaborating for a track. Reese already has experience singing after taking voice lessons to prepare her for her Oscar winning role as singer June Carter Cash in Walk the Line.
However, the actress admitted at the time she didn’t enjoy the musical parts of the film, describing them as “the most challenging, horrifying experience of [her] life”. She added “They literally had to push me to get me up there on the stage and say, ‘You have to do this. It is time. We are all waiting for you.’
“I thought I was going to throw up the whole first day. It was awful.”
It seems Reese, who was three children, Ava, 13, and Deacon, eight, with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe, and newborn son Tennessee James, with her husband Jim Toth, may have had a change of heart about her singing if the collaboration rumours are true. No details about the project have been confirmed.
