Miguel and Mariah Carey release music video for #Beautiful

Mariah Carey and Miguel have released the official music video to their collaboration on #Beautiful, matching the easy and charming tone of the song with the visuals.

Playing off the introductory line “Hop on the back of my bike”, the video begins with Miguel and Mariah riding down a dirt rode on a motorcycle, with Mimi letting her blond locks flow in the wind and Miguel looking cool in his leather jacket and aviator glasses.

Next, Miguel trades in his bike for a swoon-worthy classic red Porsche parked inside a barn decorated with chandeliers, which serve to light a private dance from Mariah. With legs that are begging for a Gillette endorsement shown off by a flowing short, yellow dress, Mariah looks comfortable and happy performing.

In the third scene, Mariah gives off some major flashbacks to her video for Butterfly, this time sitting on top of a motorcycle instead of a horse in the middle of a grassy field. But the real shocker comes from the fact that Carey looks just as good as she did when the Butterfly video was released – 16 years and two kids ago.

In what will likely be one of the biggest singles of the year, Mariah Carey and Miguel have shown that in an age of EDM music and electronic effects creeping into every genre, a simple and #Beautiful love song is just a powerful as a heavily produced dance track, if not moreso.

Mariah Carey admits she and her fellow American Idol judges argue

Mariah Carey has admitted that she and her fellow American Idol judges often argue. While Carey’s huge bust-up with Nicki Minaj during the audition stages went viral, Mariah admitted that all four judges, including Keith Urban and Randy Jackson, have disagreements about the contestants.

Carey told E! News “We have to go against each other sometimes to say, ‘But wait, this person has something amazing! Maybe you’re not seeing it. It’s a little bit beyond your comprehension at this moment, but there’s something great about this person.’”

However, they don’t always disagree. Mariah added “We’re also unanimous about a lot of great people that are here! We’re excited about the people that are here right now. We all feel that they’re above average in talent and personality.”

Season 12 of American Idol is set to premiere on Wednesday, January 16th.

Keith Urban weighs in on Nicki and Mariah

Keith Urban wasn’t surprised by Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey’s feud on American Idol. The Australian singer, who is the third new member on the show’s judging panel this season, said there was always going to be tension between the superstars because they are both so passionate about music and believes their falling out was inevitable. He told People.com, “First of all, it’s four passionate people who really care about the artists. Secondly, it’s four people who just got thrown onto a dance floor without any sort of choreography and were told ‘dance together.’ So some toes get stepped on – and we’re figuring it out.” The 45-year-old singer – who is married to actress Nicole Kidman, with whom he shares daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margret – will sit between the two female judges on the panel this season.

Fellow judge Randy Jackson, who is the only remaining original star on the panel, also claimed there has always been issues of rivalry on previous panels, which included Simon Cowell, Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, Ellen DeGeneres and Paula Abdul. He said, “Listen, since this show started there have been very different, distinct personalities. It’s always been a very happy, funny, dysfunctional family.”

Mariah recently admitted she hopes her feud with Nicki will be good for the show’s ratings. The 42-year-old songstress – who went head-to-head with the Starships rapper on the judging panel of the show last October, with Nicki at one point threatening to shoot the ‘Hero’ singer and filming having to be called off – has revealed she felt extremely unsafe after their argument and confirmed she hired extra security after it. Mariah shared, “It felt like an unsafe work environment. Anytime anybody’s reeling threats at somebody, you know, it’s not appropriate.”

Mariah Carey’s husband convinced her to join American Idol

Mariah Carey’s husband convinced her to join the American Idol panel. The Hero singer admitted she was initially wary of taking a role on the judging panel of the pop star search show but America’s Got Talent host Nick Cannon talked her into it. Mariah said, “He really wanted me to do this. I had my own kind of reservations about it because I didn’t know how I would adapt to the situation. It’s a huge deal.”

However, Mariah admitted she would have hated to be a contestant on the show when she was first starting out. Mariah explained, “I get really attached to certain people for different reasons whether it’s their story or what it mainly is is talent. Sometimes I see myself in some of the contestants when I first started and I’m glad I didn’t have to do a show like this. I would have hated it!

Mariah continued, “It’s been really fun. We’re still in the beginning stages but I’ve learned a lot. I want to continue to be the best I can be in order to help contestants. It’s that for me. I don’t know if I have a judging style. I try to speak as frankly as possible, but as kindly as possible not sugar coating the whole thing because that does nobody any good and that’s boring to watch.”
