Beyonce Knowles is performing at President Barack Obama’s second inauguration. The singer, who performed at his first inauguration in 2009 and supported him throughout his campaign for a second term, is set to sing the National Anthem at the prestigious event.
The Presidential Inaugural Committee told USA Today that Kelly Clarkson will also perform My Country Tis of Thee, while James Taylor will sing America The Beautiful on the West Front of the US Capitol in Washington, D.C. on January 21. The 51-year-old President said in a statement “Vice President Biden and I are honoured to have these wonderfully talented musical artists perform at the Inaugural ceremony. Their music is often at the heart of the American story and speaks to folks across the country.”
Beyonce also performed a cover of Etta James’ At Last for the President and First Lady Michelle Obama during the Neighbourhood Inaugural Ball four years ago. The 31-year-old singer has long been one of the President’s most high profile supporters.
She wrote a letter of praise for him ahead of last November’s US presidential election, in which she credited him with inspiring the future generation, including her own daughter, writing “Every day we see your heart and character, inspiring us to give more of ourselves. You are the leader to take us from where we are to where we need to be. You are the reason my daughter and nephew will grow up knowing that they can truly be ANYTHING they want to be.” Beyonce also designed a T-shirt to raise money for President Obama’s re-election campaign.
Kelly Clarkson says once received a giant bra as a gift from her fans. The 30-year-old singer was thrilled with the unusual gift because it shows her fans’ sense of humour, saying “I got a giant bra which I only dream I could fill, that said ‘We Support You’ on it. That’s what I love about my fans, they are awesome and inappropriate and funny.”
Kelly also revealed she would love to have bigger breasts but is too scared to get a boob job. She told In Touch magazine “I dream daily of a boob job. I have little boobs, I really want one. But I’m so scared, I would never do it. I’m a wussy girl and I’d get freaked out but I totally get why girls do it.”
The Since You’ve Been Gone hitmaker recently got engaged to her boyfriend of nine months, 35-year-old talent manager Brandon Blackstock.
Singer Kelly Clarkson, who shot to fame after winning American Idol in 2002, has been dating 35-year-old talent manager Brandon Blackstock for nine months and believes they will get married soon, even though they aren’t engaged yet.
While on The Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday,Kelly told the host “We are totally going to get married. We love each other. We are totally going to get married one day. I mean, he’s got to put a ring on at some point. But I’ll wait it out.”
Asked if she has thought about the kind of wedding she wants to have, the Stronger singer said “Honestly I’ve never been the girl to plan a wedding. We will totally, probably elope.”
The brunette star also revealed she is looking forward to spending a romantic Thanksgiving with her boyfriend on Thursday and also to their first Christmas together next month. She said “This is going to sound like I’m making a joke but it is so not. It is serious. I am not alone for the first time for Thanksgiving and Christmas – and I am very happy.”
Kelly previously called their relationship her “best accomplishment” after years of being unlucky in love.
She said “I completely fell in love. I did! Welcome to Cheeseville! I don’t know. Your priorities kind of shift and you become happier and all that stuff. It’s probably my best accomplishment because I think, for me, especially, I just didn’t think it would happen.”
