John Mayer working on a new album to go with summer tour

Hey, remember when John Mayer played music?

The singer-songwriter has announced that he will be returning with a new album this summer to coincide with his upcoming tour. Mayer posted on his Tumblr last week that this new release won’t be a deluxe edition of his last album, Born and Raised.

“New record this Summer… Not a Born and Raised ‘plus’…,” he says. “A new group of songs to bring the whole thing up to date with Summer 2013. I have that hunger that always precedes something meaningful.”

Mayer has been struggling with vocal cord problems and a number of surgeries have prevented him from performing, but he will be kicking off his first tour in three years this July. Born and Raised was released last year.

John and Katy had a love like a volcano

If you’ve been following the John Mayer and Katy Perry romance drama, then you’ll know that John Mayer recently went on Ellen and spoke loosely on his relationship with Katy but kept it pretty private. However RadarOnline.com reported that John wasn’t exactly too keen that Katy was still on good terms with her ex-husband Russell Brand.

A source told RadarOnline.com, “John and Katy together were like a volcano just about to go off… Their relationship was incredibly volatile, stemming from the jealousy they both harbored deep inside.” The source continued, “Sure, Katy was unhappy that John constantly flirted with other girls and played up his heart breaker image, even when she was standing next to him. But, Katy gave it back. She knew that she could push John’s buttons by comparing his flaws to what she saw was great in Russell, which he hated!”

The source continued, “Katy and Russell still talk to one another, and that was another thing that irked John. He’s never been in a relationship where he wasn’t the main focus all the time and it bothered him.”

That’s such a shame and we only wish the best for the two. Breakups are hard enough without all the drama! What do you guys think? Tell us in the comments section below and check out this video Shadow Days by John here.

John Mayer wants to move in with Katy Perry

Although John Mayer owns bachelor pads in Montana and Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley, he has scheduled meetings with estate agents so he and Katy, 28, can get their own place together. A source told People magazine, “He always insisted he needed his own place to make music but clearly that’s changed. Now he mostly hangs out at Katy’s place in LA.” While the duo were initially reluctant to go public with their relationship, they are now serious and want the world to know. The insider added, “They’ve both acted very private about their relationship in the past but they seem comfortable about going public with their relationship now. They seem very happy.”

John is so serious about Katy he is even rumoured to be planning to pop the question after just six months of dating. A friend of the musician said, “John really likes the fact that Katy is so independent and not needy and clingy like the other girls he’s dated. This is the first time John’s felt so strongly about a girl. She’s played her cards perfectly.” The source continued, “They really do bring out the best in each other. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he proposed.”

John Mayer talks to Rolling Stone about life at 35

John Mayer talked to Rolling Stone Magazine recently, saying that he is “quite happy” with Katy Perry. The musician remained coy when quizzed about his relationship with the singer, who he has been dating since June, but confessed he is content with how things are progressing between them. Mayer told the mag “I mean, I’m quite happy. I’m happy in all aspects of my life. I’m very happy in all aspects of my life.”

Asked whether John could see himself settling down with Katy, 28, after a series of flings with the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Taylor Swift, Mayer said he wants a “traditional” lifestyle and hopes to walk down the aisle someday. “I want to live a very traditional life with a very untraditional day job. You know what I mean?”

Mayer also opened up about his brand new outlook on life since undergoing a second throat surgery last September, admitting his health problems have made him completely “reconstruct” his values. He told Rolling Stone “I think 35′s a great time. You investigate yourself, you know there are things that aren’t growing correctly, or serving you as you get older, and you break yourself down in a period of time. I’m actually lucky that I didn’t have to do that while I was on the road. I had a couple years off, and you deconstruct yourself. It’s very painful, and when you reconstruct yourself, you kind of have a fresh outlook on the next 20 years of your life.”
