James Franco wasn’t trying to diss Justin Bieber

James Franco has apologized to Justin Bieber for mocking him. The 34-year-old OZ the Great and Powerful star, who posted a video on his WhoSay site earlier this month in which he pretended to be Justin while lip-syncing to his hit Boyfriend and frolicking with actress Pretty Little Liar‘s Ashley Benson, has revealed he was asked to remove the video but insisted he didn’t mean to “diss” the 18-year-old Canadian popstar.

James, who starred alongside Ashley and Justin’s ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez in the movie Spring Breakers, told EOnline.com at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, “I was asked to take it down by some people. Bieber didn’t contact me, but I don’t think he was too happy. James added, “I wasn’t trying to diss him.” A source close to Justin claims he has never seen the video.

James, who is rumoured to be dating his former co-star Ashley, previously posted a short video of himself miming along to Selena’s hit Love You Like A Love Song while they were filming their movie and she reacted positively to the spoof. Selena said at the time, “I loved it. It was so good.” Selena also recently covered Justin Timberlake’s song Cry Me A River. Watch it here.

5 Reasons You Need to Watch “Freaks and Geeks”

You there! Yes, you… with the fond (albeit slightly fuzzy) memories of the late 1990s and early 2000s. You, who feels such a bittersweet embrace of nostalgia when I say things like “ICQ” or “Y2K.” You should be aware that we are about to bring back one of the most beloved television series from this glorious era – Freaks and Geeks premieres TONIGHT with back-to-back episodes starting at 7ET/4PT. We’ll see you then.

However, if you AREN’T already familiar with this show, here are five reasons why you should be tuning in:

1) The Cast

We’re used to revisiting television series and marveling at the one young star that would go on to become a household name. Well this show has a multitude of them. Recognize the names James Franco, Jason Segel and Seth Rogen at all? Exactly.

If that wasn’t enough, guest stars on Freaks and Geeks include Jason Schwartzman, Rashida Jones, Shia LaBeouf, Ben Stiller and more. Talk about STAR-STUDDED.

2) The Soundtrack

More often than not, the outcasts in high school were actually the ones with the best taste in music. Tune in to Freaks and Geeks and you’ll hear tracks from Van Halen, Janis Joplin, The Who, Rush, Deep Purple, Cream, Curtis Mayfield and more. Plus, Jason Segel, James Franco and Seth Rogen all perform some of these classic tracks themselves.

3) The Executive Producer

Before he gifted us with Anchorman, Bridesmaids, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Talladega Nights, Knocked Up, Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Pineapple Express, Judd Apatow produced Freaks and Geeks. Pretty sure I don’t even need to write anything else here.

4) The Cult Following

Although the show only lasted one season, Freaks and Geeks has been widely hailed as one of the greatest series of its time. It appeared on Time magazine’s 2007 “100 Greatest Shows of All Time” list and placed third on their list of the greatest television shows of the 2000s. It received three Emmy nominations, and two nominations at the Television Critics Association Awards. An entire generation holds this series close to their hearts… now you can too.

5) The Quotes

Get ready for gems like these:

The dance is tomorrow. She’s a cheerleader, you’ve seen Star Wars 27 times. You do the math. – Neal Schweiber

Are you calling me irrational? Because I’ll tear your head off, Daniel. I’ll tear it off and I’ll throw it over that fence. – Kim Kelly

To celebrate the re-airing of one of history’s best teen shows, we’re taking a look at where the creator and cast of Freaks and Geeks are now.

While Freaks and Geeks only lasted one season on the air, the TV show about a group of average high school students navigating their teen years in the 1980s instantly became a ground breaking classic. The show also put producer Judd Apatow on the map and with Apatow’s guidance, became the starting point for one of the most successful TV casts in history. Its stars have gone on to be in some of the highest rated TV shows and films and today we take a look at where the stars of Freaks and Geeks are now.

Seth Rogen

Starring as Ken Miller in Freaks and Geeks, Canadian Seth Rogen went on to work extensively with Judd Apatow in films like Superbad, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Funny People and Pineapple Express, in which Rogen starred alongside his Freaks and Geeks cast mate James Franco. In 2011, Rogen wrote a remake of the classic comic film The Green Hornet. Rogen and his longtime writing partner Evan Goldberg penned episodes of Da Ali G show with Sasha Baren Cohen and went on to write Superbad, The Green Hornet and Pineapple Express, all of which Apatow produced.

Jason Segel

After playing Nick Andopolis on Freaks and Geeks for all 12 episodes, Jason Segel went on to enjoy a hugely successful film and TV career. In addition to appearing on all seven seasons of How I Met Your Mother, Segel has starred in films like Despicable Me, Gulliver’s Travels, Bad Teacher, I Love You, Man, Jeff, Who Lives At Home, and the Apatow-produced movies Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Knocked Up and The Five-Year Engagement. Samm Levine

Samm Levine’s role as Neal Schweiber on Freaks and Geeks has been instrumental in helping him land future acting gigs, including the role of Pfc. Hirschberg in Inglorious Basterds (director Quentin Tarantino was a fan of Freaks and Geeks). Levine has also continued to work in TV on such shows as Life As We Know It, Undeclared, and NCIS.

Martin Starr
