Ed Sheeran admits that rumours he was dating Taylor Swift made him feel ‘like a stud’. In an interview with New Zealand’s TVNZ, Sheeran confirmed rumours from earlier this year that placed Sheeran leaving Swift’s hotel room in London at 4 am, but assured the reporter that their hang out session was strictly platonic.

“I did go to her hotel, I did stay there ’til four and I did leave in the same clothes – but I was playing her my new record. It was strictly that kind of thing,” Ed explained. “Literally, I went in there and we passed the guitar back and forth and played songs to each other.”

Sheeran also said that he would not date Taylor because of her past relationship with his friend Harry Styles, but admitted that rumours surrounding the two being more than friends weren’t all bad. “The thing that impressed me with the media is that because they wrote about it, my mates believed it,” said Ed. “And my mates are texting me being like ‘is it true?’ so I said it wasn’t but the fact that people can believe it makes me feel like a bit of a stud, you know?”

Sheeran also pointed out that dating someone and touring with them for six months could get awfully uncomfortable if the relationship didn’t outlast the tour. Taylor and Ed kicked off Swift’s Red Tour last night in Omaha, Nebraska, the first of 66 dates in North America.

Tour mates and friends Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran are rumoured to be dating after being spotted spending time together before last month’s Brit Awards (watch the show again here). The London Evening Standard is reporting that Swift and Sheeran stayed up talking in a hotel room until 4 am the night before the Brit Awards, now labeling the friends as a ‘couple’. Yes. A couple of friends.

The paper is reporting that the pair dated early in 2012, but took a break to concentrate on their careers. Swift then began dating Sheeran’s friend Harry Styles, and we all know how that one ended up. Actually, we don’t really know. Wait for the album. Sheeran is opening for Swift’s North American Red Tour, which kicks off on March 13 in Omaha.

Time will tell if the two are actually a couple or simply good friends. Either way, I’ve already bought my tickets for the Red Tour and I will be uber annoyed if they date, it implodes, and I don’t get my money’s worth. Dazzle me, Ed and Taylor!
