The only thing I like better than candy is new music from Robbie Williams. And I really like candy. The boy bander turned international solo pop star has released his video for Candy, the first single from Williams’ ninth solo studio album Take The Crown.
Skins actress Kaya Scodelario stars in the video as a selfish posh girl who requires the aid of her guardian angel, played by Robbie, to keep her alive in her life of cell phones and bored looks. Williams throws punches, runs through glass and rides a white horse after becoming a knight, all in the name of keeping Scoderlario safe.
Williams wrote the song with his former Take That bandmate Gary Barlow, who has also enjoyed a successful solo career outside of the English pop act. Williams has said that he hopes to collaborate on a full album with Barlow in the future, adding “Some songs take an age to write and some songs just fall out of your mouth completely formed, and you don’t have to think about it. I don’t know why that fell out of my mouth and out of my brain at that particular time – it just did.”
Shot in London, the video for Candy was directed by Joseph Kahn, who has worked with everyone from Maroon 5 to Destiny’s Child to Eminem.
Take The Crown is set to be released in the UK on November 5.
