This week in music history 1974 – Pamela Courson died of a heroin overdose. (played by Meg Ryan in the Doors movie) She was the long term companion of Jim Morrison – singer of the doors who is part of the “27 club” of famous musicians who died at the age of 27 such as Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix. When Courson died about 3 years after Jim there was a pretty bitter battle over his estate but it was eventually decided by a judge that they (Jim and Pam) were a common-law couple, and everything went to Courson’s family. She was buried with the last name Morrison, not Courson, and check this out – she also died at the age of 27.
