This Week In Music History – 1972

This week in music history, 1972 – Paul Simon released his self-titled first solo album. It’s still probably his best record and the songs most people would recognize are “Mother and Child Reunion” and “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard” but trust me, every song on this album is perfect – notably one of my favorite songs of all time ”Papa Hobo”. In 2007 Simon became the first ever recipient of the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song and this month you can buy a new live DVD and see artists like Stevie Wonder and James Taylor pay tribute to one of the greatest songwriters ever on the night he received his award.
